A Harris County grand jury has declined to indict a Houston man charged in a March 2024 homicide case, determining there was insufficient evidence to proceed to trial. The decision came after months of rigorous work by Ed McClees, founder of the McClees Law Firm, PLLC, who successfully demonstrated that his client acted in self-defense.
The case stemmed from a late-night confrontation that left one person dead and McClees' client facing a murder charge. From the outset, McClees and his team launched an intense investigation, securing witness testimony, forensic evidence, and video footage that ultimately supported the self-defense claim.
“This was a case of a man protecting his family from a terrifying and fast-moving situation,” said McClees. “We believed in our client's innocence from day one and knew the facts were on our side. I'm grateful the grand jury took the time to examine the full context and came to the right conclusion.”
A former prosecutor with years of experience in high-stakes criminal litigation, McClees is known for his meticulous preparation and strategic courtroom approach. In this case, he was brought in after charges had been filed and worked to prove his client's innocense.
“This case is a reminder of why we have the grand jury system,” said McClees. “It's there to protect people from being wrongly prosecuted when the evidence simply doesn't support it.”
